The functions of the Office of the Public Solicitor (PSO) is to provide legal assistance to needy persons. The Public Solicitor ensures that everyone charged with an offence shall have a fair hearing, within a reasonable time, by an independent court and be afforded a lawyer if it is a serious offence.

Citizens of Vanuatu can access the services provided by the Office of the Public Solicitor across the country through offices located in Port Vila, Santo,  Malekula, Tanna, Penama and Torba.
