A team of six (6) lawyers attended a legal awareness at the Department of Meterology & Climate Change conference room on 27 July 2021. The team responded to a request from the Youth Challenge program who were preparing 34 youths for social and worklife. The aim of the awareness was to discuss the criminal laws and the legal issues affecting youths and the society as a whole today.
Furthermore, to allow the audience to reflect on the different laws and their application on them as individuals. We were informed that the youths are writing up their personal values and the awareness is supposedly targeted to challenge them and provide some guidance. Presenters and topics presented/discussed during this awareness session included:
- Jane Tari Aru Acknowledged the youth challenge Director and its officers for the invitation of its first ever engagement with the program. Introduced the team and the different topics of awareness. At the end of the presentations, Jane presented some brochures and also summerised the awareness
- Kylie B Karu Spoke on the Offences against Morality
- Bryan Livo Offences against property
- Fotuviri Kalsakau Offences against Public Interest
- Lorenzo Moli Offences against person

The discussions outlined the elements of the offences in the Penal Code Act Cap 135 and related penalities. The presenters used real cases to llustrate important issues of the same. Lorenzo, Reggie Temankill and Fotuviri are participating for the first time in legal awareness after joining PSO.
Discussions extended covering main roles and functions of the Public Solicitors Office. Apparantly, the audience were interested in criminal cases and how the office acts for wrong doers. Questions regarding the sexual offences, property damages, assault and Domestic violence were raised and answered by the team. It took over 2 hours to interact with the participants.
Overall, the awareness was very interactive and informative. At the end of the session brochures were handed to the participants. Ms. Larrisa Csiba made a closing remark stating it was the first ever engagement of such awareness and it was very productive. She urged PSO to heed their call for future awarenesses as it is can effectively and positively contribute to shaping the youths involved in the program.
